How do you feel about ls1 miata?

Hey. I was thinking about getting a cheap little mx5 and swapping an ls1 into it. Fast? Also, what other mods would be useful for stability and reliability? How do you feel about ls1 miata?
The one person that I know of that did this swap was not happy with the results.

Yes it had plenty of power, and was fast, but it just was too easy to cross the knifes edge on handling. Meaning that in a turn it went from under-control to out of control with little or no warning.

Thankfully he did not eat any trees in the process.

I don't know that there is a way to correct for this, he traded his off to get another stock Miata to supercharge. Something he found more to his liking in the handling department. How do you feel about ls1 miata?
Ls1 miatas are great! GM's LS V8s are one of the best in the world. That would make the miata seriously fast! 300hp into a half ton car.

Just to let you know its really expensive to put an ls1 into the miata. You need to change the diff and tranny too.

Get some adjustable coilovers for it. And the car is already reliable as is so no worries there.

Oh and if you ever find the ls1 too expensive, go with the ROTREX kit, its INSANE.How do you feel about ls1 miata?
A LS1 powered Miata would be seriously fun and fast, though obviously the conversion would not be very cheap. Flyin Miata offers a kit which would greatly simplify the process.

As an alternative, keep in mind that the stock engine can reliably make a respectable amount of power when turbocharged or supercharged.
