Can you make an Automatic Transmission to a Manuel in a 1990 Miata?

How hard would it be, and what does it entail? Can you make an Automatic Transmission to a Manuel in a 1990 Miata?
It can be done.

You need the clutch pedal, hanger, master and slave cylinders, hydraulic lines, transmission, flywheel pressure plate, clutch plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. I believe all the crank shafts are drilled for the pilot bearing. The ECM is different and the interlocks will have to be rewired. A new center console would be nice, but not required for the conversion to work. Well at least a different boot on the shifter.

Also I have heard (but not confirmed) that the cams are different. The automatic cam reportedly is more of a torque cam then the manual one and pays the price at the top end.

But with 90 Miata's going for less then three grand, it would hardly seem worth the effort to do the conversion, because by the time you get all the parts and install them you in many cases will be over that figure.
you would have to remove the automatic trans, remove the flex plate, and replace with a flywheel and a manual trans. you would then probably have to customize the floorboard and possibly the center console. rough estimate of parts and labor: possibly 3k...this may rival the cost of buying a 1990 manual miataCan you make an Automatic Transmission to a Manuel in a 1990 Miata?
Have to change the transmission, linkage and add a peddle assembly. If you get parts from a wrecking yard it may cost you $1,000 if you do the work yourself.
It would be cheaper and a lot easier to just sell your old Miata and buy a different Miata with manual transmission.

Gary doesn't know what he's talking about. there is no way you can buy the parts for under 2000
