Can i get a hard top for my convertible miata?

I'm going to get a Miata, problem is, I live in the Chicago area, so I'm gonna experience all 4 seasons. Could I possibly put the convertible top down, get a hard top, then latch it on and somehow wire up the defroster? I've seen latches for doing so, I'm just not sure exactly how this is done, or if its just a scam.|||you got to checkout this site....

http://www.miata.net/garage/hardtop/|||there are factory removeable hardtops for this car and they work really well. when you go to buy yours, just ask the seller if he has the hard top. solves all your issues. good luck|||If you are buying new, try to find one with the retractable hard top.

If buying used, some times you will find a Miata with both tops.

There are a few hard ware changes between a lot of the different year Miata, but the hard tops can be adapted from one year to another. So it would just be a mater of getting the right parts to fit the hard top to another year (I think the 08 takes a different hard top). I am not sure what year they added the rear defroster on them or if they always had them. So you can get the top separate. There is one for competition on e-bay with no rear glass, the glass could be bought local.

I drive a Miata year round, both here in WV and in Nebraska. With out a hard top. No rear defroster either. So a Hard top is not required for winter driving.

A top with a rear glass (instead of vinyl) would work better then the top I use (a 3 rear window one) in some ways. I like the three window because of the additional rear vision.|||Yes.

You can buy a hardtop from Mazda or get an aftermarket hardtop.

I am not sure about the defroster though.|||I've owned my Miata for 18+ years and have always had a soft-top with plastic rear window. I've in the heat and I've lived in the cold and I have never felt the need for a hard top.

If you like the way the car looks with a hardtop, by all means get one. But you really don't need one to deal with winter.

If you're worried about scraping the ice, that's not a problem either. Like I said, I've had the plastic winter for the entire time I've owned mine and have never had a problem.

Personally, I would save the money that the hardtop costs and buy 8 gallons of gas. LOL
